    Hi Everyone,

I’ve been around the houses on this one and checked a few similar posts in the forum without getting a resolution. I have a fresh install of Multisite as follows:

    – Network Type: Sub-directories.
    – Plugins installed: Jetpack, WP Complete backup – Both disabled.
    – Both WP Config and .htaccess have the entries as specified on the network setup instructions.

I have one root site https://www.harrowdirect.co.uk and have created a new site https://www.harrowdirect.co.uk/explore/.

The “Right Now” dashboard widget says “You have 1 site and 1 user”. It should read “You have 2 sites and 1 user” because both sites were created by admin and are visible on the Sites dashboard – both at Super Admin and Site levels.

I repeated the install from scratch a few times yesterday with the same results – the righ now widget not counting any new sites.

Furthermore, on selecting Update Network in Network Admin, I get the message “Warning! Problem updating https://www.harrowdirect.co.uk/explore. Your server may not be able to connect to sites running on it. Error message: couldn’t connect to host”.

Presumably, this is also a symptom of the main issue as this is a completely fresh install of WP, hence including both in the same post.

Last few lines from my server error log say:

[Mon Oct 01 10:56:29 2012] [error] [client 79.170.44.5] Use of uninitialized value $config{“subdomain”} in substitution iterator at setup_script.cgi line 120, <IFILE> line 51.
[Mon Oct 01 10:56:29 2012] [error] [client 79.170.44.5] Use of uninitialized value $config{“subdomain”} in substitution iterator at setup_script.cgi line 120, <IFILE> line 59.
[Mon Oct 01 11:27:59 2012] [error] [client 212.98.166.62] File does not exist: /home/sites/harrowdirect.co.uk/public_html/robots.txt
[Mon Oct 01 11:27:59 2012] [error] [client 212.98.166.62] File does not exist: /home/sites/harrowdirect.co.uk/public_html/robots.txt, referer: https://harrowdirect.co.uk/robots.txt

I created a default robots.txt file as per the last error, but have no idea what the first three mean. Note that the first three errors appear each time I do a fresh install of Multisite.

Oh, and Multisite was working perfectly on this domain until recently when I decided to rebuild the environment from scratch in preparation for go-live.

Any suggestions much appreciated, as I’ve exhausted the extent of my knowledge here!

    Dee

FWIW, the sites count is cached. It’ll be better on 3.5 (or at least it has been for me).

setup_script.cgi isn’t a part of WP, however, and that one has me stumped.

Thanks Mika – I found out about the caching the next day when my site count was fine – what a relief.

As far as the setup_script.cgi goes, I think this must then be down to the auto-install script through my hosting provider’s control panel.

Doesn’t seem to have affected any of the functionality, so we’re good to go ??
