• How to get the Payment popup 100% in French?

I still have the following field names in English:
– Name
– Email
– Credit or debit card
– Car number

Do I have to set anything special in my Stripe account?
Or is it coming from Stripe Payments?

I have manually changed the button text PAY in to the French translation PAYER by editing General Settings > Payment Popup Button Text.

In General Settings, I also selected French for Stripe Checkout Language, as well as France for Popup Default Country.

(Note: The GUI of my WordPress is in English and I install the English version of Stripe Payments, but I guess it is not related).

PS: Congratulations to the developers of this Open Source app! Very useful.

Those words are handled by Stripe. Stripe detects the locale of the browser and sets the language accordingly.

E.g. if your browser language is French, those strings should be displayed in French automatically.

Thanks for the feedback. So there is nothing we can do since we can control the language of the visitors.

It raises the question: Since I have translated the other terms (Name => Nom), will Stripe be able to override them in case a viewer has its browser in German, Spanish or Japanese?

Stripe only handles “Credit Card Number”, “MM\YY” and “CVC” strings. In order to be PCI-complaint, those input fields are provided by Stripe and this cannot be changed.

The rest of the text on payment form is controlled by the plugin. Currently is has somewhat limited options to handle translations for visitors with different languages, but we’ll definitely be working on it by implementing language auto-detection feature.

Last, but not least, I found a bug when “Stripe Checkout Language” setting wasn’t properly handled for new API (it was always assumed as “Auto” regardless of the setting). The bug has been fixed in upcoming version of the plugin. You can use this setting to force language for those fields displayed by Stripe. E.g. if your customers are from France, you can set the language to “French” and it will be displayed for all your customers.

I like the way you explain things and make them very clear.

Hey, is there any news on this ? I’m facing the same issue and can’t translate “Credit or debit card” or “Name” strings in French.

I have to setup this plugin for a client’s website I can’t let it as it with mixed english / french terms as it looks really weird and unsafe to require payments.

Same.

“Name” “Address” “Postcode” “Country” “Credit or debit card” “Billing info”
stay in English, not translated.

French people might be suspicious to see mixed english and french.

I have contacted Stripe,
I had someone who seemed not to know what to answer

She sent me this link :
https://stripe.com/docs/payments/checkout/customization

Talking about “Stripe checkout” which is another system I guess
The inner system from Stripe, to replace any plugin

(I’m sorry, I don’t really know the specific “dev” vocabulary)

For me it looks so complicated to try that solution…
I’m keen on using this user friendly plugin here

I don’t really know what to do

Hi Somaya.

You can translate those lines (or any other you want) using Loco Translate. Check this post for detailed instructions.

I just checked this on my test site and it works perfectly.

Hey Alex!
Wordpress forum didn’t tell me there was an answer!
I came by myself to check

Thank you for the very clear explanations.

Indeed, there are 2 French languages displayed in Loco Translate.
I’ve chosen the right one you said
But Sync failed.
with a very long paragraph

I repeated the process, always the sync failed.
with this very long paragraph

So I tried the other French language with “System” in Folder column and not “Author” But same : “Error sync”

I notice there is this message above Sync Button :
” Debugging: The translations do not match the model. Please start synchronization to update from stripe-payments.pot ”

So,
I’ve gone ahead on yours instructions, with “Relocate” etc … it works!!!
But “Name” and “Same billing and shipping info” are still in English in the popup payment
And Sync doesn’t want to work, so not able to save any sync

Then,
I click on Edit template in Loco Translate, and I arrive on that stripe-payments.pot
So I click on the Sync button on that page but same ‘Error sync” with a long paragraph

In the Settings of the Loco Translate plugin, I found this in red color :

Ajax test result:
FAILED: {“data”:{“ping”:”ΟΚ ✓″,”utf8″:”✓″}

Maybe that is the cause but I cannot understand that stuff ??

dear Alex,

I’ve just resolved my issue.
I desactivate WP Rocket plugin.

This plugin was apparently the conflict.
Oh dear… at last I found the issue.

Everything is translated perfectly at last.

Hope this can help someone…
