freezing browser after update to wordpress 5.3

  • I updated to wp 5.3 and now any page that has the syntax highlighter evolved code gets killed by the browser.

    I get the message: A webpage is slowing down your browser. What would you like to do? Stop It | Wait

    When I deactivate the plugin this goes away.

    I’ve done some debugging. The problem seems to be related to a combination of Autoptimize and syntax highlighter evolved. If I disable autoptimize then the syntax highlighter works.

    Hi spyderman4g63, I’m Autoptimize’s developer. After a lot of trial & error I personally have switched to Highlighter v2 in syntaxhighlighter to fix this on my blog. Alternatively you could disable JS optimization or aggregation or try excluding syntaxhighlighter from JS optimization and untick the “also minify excluded JS/ CSS” option.

    Thanks @optimizingmatters for replying. Hopefully those suggestions help.

    I can confirm that using v2 does the job. It allows this plugin and autoptimize to work fine together.
