Free WP-Members and commercial plugins

It has come to my attention that there are a number of commercial plugins floating around using the name WP-Members or a derivative thereof. This most recently came to light in the support forum regarding a plugin called wp-Member by SmartMediaPro. The support questions for these are often tagged “wp-members” which ties the support issue to the actual WP-Members plugin that is hosted here in the repository.

Please note that the original WP-Members that I first released in 2006 is still maintained here. It has absolutely no association with these commercial vendors, nor do I.

Unless SmartMediaPro changes the name of their plugin, there will unfortunately continue to be confusion in the marketplace. I have offered them some possible concessions, which they have chosen to ignore. I have published a full statement regarding the issue here.

WP-Members is a free plugin and I will continue to support it. If you tag your support issues as wp-members I will see it. If you are seeking support for one of these commercial products, you should seek assistance from those vendors.
