Many features removed.

I’m sure that reading the iThemes Security 8.0 Brings New Design, Features post on iThemes blog (The link is also available in a notice under the Security option in the admin toolbar once updated to the 8.0.x release) will lead to new insights.

We removed outdated security features that are no longer relevant in 2021 from iThemes Security & iThemes Security Pro.

However, in iThemes Security 8.0, we added new security features that were previously only available in the Pro version of the plugin. iThemes Security is stronger than ever!

You can find Hide Backend on the Advanced Page of the iThemes Security settings. You can also easily find it using the new and improved search tool.

You can read the iThemes Security 8.0 release post to see exactly what was removed and why. The post also covers how to get started with the new security tools added in 8.0.

The whole point of good U.I design is that you don’t need an instruction manual to work it out. People should just get it – especially experienced people who have been using the plugin for years.

Nobody wants a wants a complicated Security website within their WordPress website – with multiple navbars, breatrails, search tools … it’s just a plugin.

Bloated complexity it is not going to increase sales. But a simple, professional design might – look at Gravity Forms, for example.

I see it now. That is a very strange place to put it.

I can see why there are so many reviews thinking features a lot of missing features because of the confusing UX. For example, under features the submenu items are the same as the TABS, while some of the other areas are completely separate pages, this should be consistent.

I think just moving Features, Tools, and Advanced to the Configure menu all together would likely reduce confusion.

This would make a lot more sense to me:

Configure
– Features (submenu not needed as there are already tabs)
– Global Settings
– Lockouts
– Tools
– Advanced

User Groups and Notifications seem fine.

I’d adjust my review but it doesn’t seem like I’m able to.

The hide backend feature is not working properly anymore.
If you enale this feature (in the free version) it creates the new login, but you still can login at yourwebsite\wp-login.

That means, the backend is not hidden, you just have 2 login pages now.

/wp-login is not a WordPress core login slug, it usually returns a 404 (Page not found).

However depending on which web server (Apache) the site is using and how it is configured the /wp-login slug might work. Simply because Apache then automatically attempts to access /wp-login.php …

Temporarily disable the Hide Backend feature. If /wp-login still works (no caching), then it has nothing to do with the iTSec plugin Hide Backend feature.

Addendum: If my memory serves me well, the MultiViews option is by default disabled in Apache.

it has something to do with ithemes security plugin.
The last years everything works fine with hiding the backend.
I guess it hads something to do with the new version 8.0.

I disabled the feature and used another plugin to hide the backend.
And guess? it works without problems. That means it’s a problem of itheme security.
