    When using PayPal as the payment gateway can you setup a subscription that is free for a set period of time (i.e. 1 year) then after costs a set fee per year? If so does the first year have to go through Paypal or just subsequent years?

    Possible issue: I’ve setup a subscription that is free permanently and it works fine, but if I attempt to do the free then paid it doesn’t show the Free subscription button.

    Thanks for your question. Subscription Plans have multiple “levels” within them so you can setup a free period which naturally moves to a paid subscription after a year. The member wouldn’t be charged until that year is up.

    Your “infinite” free duration wouldn’t work because they’d never progress into a paid subscription. You would have to use a specific duration.

    Just to clarify – setting it up to be indefinitely free works fine (without any paid renewal), but when I have a finite free period followed by a serial paid period I have the issue.

    Right now that setup doesn’t show the button for the free payment gateway. It directs the user to paypal to pay for $0.

    Hmm, I believe that’s how the payment workflow should go, that should put the subscription in place and while there wouldn’t be an upfront charge, the PayPal account/credit card will be on file and ready to be charged at the time of the paid subscription move.

    Have you tried proceeding with that, to see how it progresses after that?

    It should just work. But if you notice any troubles, we can have a look.
