Free member self-unsubscribe with MailChimp Integration
-
How does a free member unsubscribe from a blog using S2Member and be simultaneously removed from a MailChimp list?
A common email list-building strategy is to offer subscribers a benefit for signing up to a blog as a free member. When users no longer desire the benefit, they should be able to unsubscribe from the blog and the list with a single click.
N.B. Merely offering users a facility to unsubscribe from the list doesn’t work here. Users can unsubscribe from the list, but if they can still access the blog then the list-building strategy is defeated. Users should not be able to get the benefits of free membership on the site unless they agree to remain on the list.
Ideally, there should be a shortcode that the site owner could add to a page that would give users the ability to self-unsubscribe from both the blog and the list. S2Member Pro offers a shortcode for canceling a paid subscription, but this shortcode does not work for free subscribers.
I have looked up and down in your support forums and I am unable to find any facility in S2Member for this. Various other plugins (e.g. Delete Me) permit subscribers to unsubscribe, but they don’t remove the subscriber from a MailChimp list.
Unless I’m missing something, this seems to be a important omission in S2Member, which is otherwise a very flexible plugin.
Any help on this — even a hack — would be welcome.
