Free and Calculated shipping not working together

HI,
I am trying to offer free shipping on some items and calculated on others. It works fine when these items are not in the same checkout. When the item with free shipping is added with calculated shipping item. It doesn’t show the various shipping methods available. Like Express or Standard shipping. It just shows a price that is for the most expensive calculate shipping method like it wont give option for customer to pick Standard shipping all it shows is Express shipping. How can this be fixed?
