    Hello folks,

I’ve an uncool issue with the last update of jetpack.

Some of my thumbnails are not anymore “box-sized” / resized…
I don’t why exactly. I had to disable the random images posts widget. That was too ugly.

My home is there: https://jeretiens.net you can easily note what’s going wrong.

If you can tell me what to do ? Or what to disable (Photon?) ? Maybe how to restore the last jetpack version… I’d really appreciate.

    Thanks a lot.

    JR.

A screenshot for a better explaination:

    1. Abnormal size (or abnormal resize)
    2. Normal automatic “resize” of the thumbnail
    3. Normal size too (the first thumbnail shows a bigger image than the listed ones)

The abnormal ones seem to be the oldest images… but I’m not 100% sure.

I’m sorry for the up but I really need a clue…

Otherwise I’ll have to unistall jetpack ??

I have the same trouble. It’s in Photon. Deactivate Photon and your problem is solved. And indeed the problem seems to occur with older pictures.

I’m curious if more people experience this problem. And i would be happy to hear a more definite solution!

Does it impact the SERP in google image ? Got huge trafic from it…

No idea. Guess we’ll have to wait for advice or another update.

Thank you both for the reports!

That’s indeed a known issue with Photon in Jetpack 3.8.1. We worked hard to get ready for the upcoming Responsive Images feature that will be included in WordPress 4.4, scheduled to be released next week, but our work also caused some issues on sites that don’t run WordPress 4.4 yet, and where images being used as a Featured Image have a size that did not exist when the image was uploaded. For example, if you uploaded the image before to switch to your current theme, or before to install a new plugin that would define the new image size.

There are 2 ways to fix this, until Jetpack 3.8.2 and WordPress 4.4 are released:

    1. You can deactivate Photon, under Jetpack > Settings in your dashboard, as @gjjkarsten mentioned.
    2. You can use this plugin to regenerate all thumbnails on your site, and thus create the missing thumbnail sizes for your Featured Images.

I’m sorry for the up but I really need a clue…

It’s worth noting that we reply to every thread from the oldest to the newest. Every time you bump a thread, it goes back to the bottom of the queue, so I’d recommend against it.

Activating or deactivating Photon shouldn’t have an impact on your search rankings. Photon images aren’t indexed by Google, only the original images are, so when deactivating the module, the original images will still be indexed.
