Forum Templates does not effect layout

Hello,
I am attempting to setup a new website with forums but am having some issues getting the layout to look correct.

When I select the Alternative Layout #1 it does not change the layout at all. I can however adjust colors and font sizes.

Fixed it myself. Just a lack of experience. I had to set the top level to categories then it took off running ??
