I am aware that this is not strictly an WP related question but I value your guy’s opinions.

I am currently trying to implement a forum into my wordpress blog. I have tried installing phpBB but I am discussed with the way it implements themes. It makes it extremely hard to write your own theme.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a small scale bulletin board that is easy to use, to manage and especially to theme.

I have looked at IPB and vBulletin already but they are not free. I have also looked at BBpress but it lacks some of the features I will need.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • hey thanks MichaelH i am checking out SMF ..it looks cool, they have a large community ..unless something else comes up ..it may the one i use for now

..i played around with iceBB and looks pretty cool but its in the beta, though i believe they are getting ready to release the full version anyday now…

Those who think that XDForum is not ready for primetime or can handle lots of users… how about an installation with 100,000 posts? Is that big enough?

And yes, it’s “just” a WordPress + XDForum installation, using the “journalized” WP theme… VERY clever use of open source software…

Personally, I think it’s time someone realizes that the “comments” thing in WP needs to become more forum-like.
