I am sorry to report this has not been implemented yet. But it is part of the plugin roadmap.
This issue appeared because ProfileGrid was built with group based forms in mind from start. We agree, it addresses a specific case scenario and many users would prefer forms to be separated from groups. Over the time, we introduced some changes which allowed more flexible approach but an ideal solution is still away.
Currently, we plan to introduce a system to create a seperate registration form which can be used to register users on the site (but not assign them any group). Let me know if you have another idea in mind.
Meanwhile, you can use our other plugin RegistrationMagic , which offers advanced tools to register users on websites and offers close integration with ProfileGrid.
