Forms gone – CF7 and DB

  • Hi,

    To my dismay this morning I found that all of my CF7 forms are gone. We have not added any plugins, done any updates, I’m seeing nothing in log changes in Ithemes security – they just disappeared and I have no explanation for why or how this is possible.

    I have loaded an old database into locahost and the forms are there. However, this db is years old so I cannot just load it up on the live site. I need to get the relevant tables to load.

    Where in the database might I get those tables?

    As well, if there is any insight into why all my forms would vanish without making any changes to the site, that would be greatly appreciated to try to avoid this happening in the future.

    Do you realize you are using a quite old version of the plugin? Is there any reason not to update it?

    Hi,

    Yes, we are using an old version of the plugin. The reason is because there is a significant amount of custom coding involved so as to use the contact form to make purchases. I am planning to do a upgrade and recode what is necessary for the client.

    In this particular case I did run an upgrade to see if that was the problem, but the forms were still gone. Would using an old version of the plugin causes all forms to disappear without any other changes being made on the site.

    Also, I noticed that php_max_vars was only set to 1000 (I’ve updated this morning after noticing) and I know sometimes, like with the menu, that can make things disappear – but strange that it happened now when no new forms have been added in quite awhile.

    The only other explanation I can come to is that a rouge employee deleted them all!

    For now, until I can run the upgrades, I’m wondering if it’s possible to pull the relevant tables from an old database backup to get my forms back?

    Of course I can manually copy all of the forms, but there are around 50 of them so trying to avoid that if possible.

    I don’t mean to necro this exactly, but the same thing happened to a site of one our clients as well. We were using version 4.7, which we know is an older version but like the previous incident we had a lot of custom work that wouldn’t work on newer version without significant reworking.

    No plugins have been updated and nothing on the site has changed…

    Was there any update to this at all?

    I know this is month’s later… but this happened again… one minute all forms were there, next minute every form gone – with no seeming rhyme or reason why.

    @philmells – are you perhaps on siteground? I’d like to figure out some pattern for why this is the case.
