• Hi Esmi. Here’s my problem:

I logged onto my blog site and noticed that my right sidebar was not in its place. I then scrolled all the way down to the bottom and found it under all of the posts. I went to the appearance section in the dashboard and clicked “Activate” on the theme that was installed. when i reloaded the page, I got: Fatal error: Class ‘Themater’ not found in /home1/watermus/public_html/smackwatermusic/blog/wp-content/themes/MusicLifecopy/functions.php on line 3

when I went to my FTP, I could not find my current theme’s folder at all under the themes section in the wp content folder.

I tried renaming the folder and re uploading the theme through FTP but nothing changed. I then tried upgrading to the latest wordpress and nothing happened. I then downgraded to the 3.1.2 version (one I had with the theme) and got this :

Cannot redeclare wp_timezone_supported() (previously declared in /home1/watermus/public_html/smackwatermusic/blog/wp-includes/functions.php:4018) in /home1/watermus/public_html/smackwatermusic/blog/wp-includes/deprecated.php on line 2617

  • I tried renaming the folder

Renaming what folder? I thought you couldn’t find the wp-content/themes/MusicLifecopy folder.

Did you make a database backup before you started all the upgrading and downgrading?

i tried renaming the folder after I had uploaded it and nothing happened. I set up automatic backups for the blog which i had emailed to me weekly.

    OK – try this…
Rename your wp-content/themes folder to wp-content/themes-old. Then create a new folder in wp-content called themes. Place a new, unzipped, copy of Twenty Ten in this new folder. Then try logging into your site.

Ok great this sounds like it will work.

One thing: I have been accessing these files through the Bluehost file manager. I tried to rename the themes folder but it would not give me the option to rename folders, only files.

I went to “configure ftp client” where it gives me the configuration files and tried using Cyber Duck for Mac but it would not load for some reason. anything I could do ?

I think this is something you need to discuss with your hosts. Their file manager may be limited compared to a full ftp client, Unfortunately, I don’t use Macs that often, so can’t help with configuring Cyber Duck.

Try Filezilla for Mac, it’s a good FTP client and luckily has versions for all OSes.

thanks harmck, i tried it but it did not work for me.

esmi: I tried to do what you told me

“Rename your wp-content/themes folder to wp-content/themes-old. Then create a new folder in wp-content called themes. Place a new, unzipped, copy of Twenty Ten in this new folder. Then try logging into your site. “

I created a new themes folder and renamed the folder themes-old. I then placed the new unzipped copy of Twenty Ten in the folder. when i tried to access the blog, I got a 404 error. What did i do wrong?

i also am new with FTP but am learning as i go.

How exactly did you downgrade to 3.1.2?

    Thread Starter betoriffs

    (@betoriffs)

Through the Bluehost account. It gave me the option to restore the 3.1.2 version in case there was a problem with the upgrade. I really don’t want to be forced to start from scratch and lose all of my posts and comments on my blog. Anything I can still do ?

Can you backup the existing database?

    Thread Starter betoriffs

    (@betoriffs)

yes, I can back up the entire site, website files, and the SQL databases

Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress 3.1.2

so back up my files and folders, delete them from the host, and re-upload all files and folders except the wp-content folder ?

Ok so I downloaded a fresh version of wordpress. how do I upload all the files onto the new wordpress?

    Using Cyber Duck.
