    Hi there,

I’ve read up on <h1> tags and am keen to use them to enhance my sites SEO. The issue is that I was happy for my headings to be in standard Tahoma like the rest of my site, <h1> Itself is not too bad but I really do not like the sizing of any of the others <h4> makes my text into capitols in an odd text. Is there a way I can use them without having them format my text too much?

    Thanks
    Lauren

  • Heading tags are meant to be used for… well… headings. Not for SEO purposes. That’s search engine spamming. Are you using H4 tags for headings or plain text?

I’m using <h1> where appropriate but otherwise just plain bolded text as that it what looks best on some pages. It was advised on SEO Quake to use more heading tags so I looked into why, I read elsewhere that it helps search engines to read your site better as it is prioritised and is good for SEO.

I’d already heard that it was best for your SEO to only use one <h1> tag per page, but does the rest not make a difference?

Do not use <strong></strong> tags to make all of your text bold. Again, that would be classed as potential search engine spamming. Use CSS instead. That’s what it is for.

Can you break the individual content of your pages down into sub-section – each with their own subheadings?

I’d already heard that it was best for your SEO to only use one <h1> tag per page,

That’s not strictly true. It all depends upon the context.

I’ve only used <strong> for headings, never for the rest of my text.

I have a couple of sub headings, I just don’t like the sizes of them when header tagged.

You have highlighted to me that it’s more of an individual thing though, so thank you.

*I’ve only used Strong for headings*

I didn’t realise that it would actually bold here. Apologies.

I’ve only used <strong> for headings

All headings should use the appropriate heading markup. The <strong> tag is for emphasis only and does not indicate a heading.
