    I’ve isolated the cause to changes I recently made to my comments.php file. I did this by uploading an older version of my comments.php file from a backup, which immediately fixed the problem. Will post update if I find the specific cause in my comments.php file.

    Problem fixed. I had changed two styles in the commments.php file from <p class=””> to <div class=””> and that was enough to mess up the formatting. I changed them back and it fixed the problem.
