Formatting pre tag

Hi,

I started using iconic one themes for my blog https://junglebytes.org. I post lot of programming codes in my posts with

tags. I want to cutomize the pre tag so that it has a dark background and white text. I updated theme’s style.css and could not get it working.

Anyone has any thoughts on how to do it please?
