Formatting Decimal Numbers

I use latitudde and longitude in some of my sites which are to 6 decimal places. To increase the default 4 decimal places to 6 I had to modify that parameter in the database. Now all works well.

I also collect data in a field called length which I require to 2 decimal places, however the system displays it as 4 decimal places which is quite confusing. Without modifying the parameters within the database, can I format the output of this field to give just 2 decimal places. Do you think that this is something that should be available within the Manage Database Fields.

I thought I could be clever and use the currency field which as an accuracy of 2 decimal places. This is okay for data entry, however when it displays it still shows to 4 decimal places.
