Formatting date on widget list

On the widget list, I want to format the dates shown to abbreviate the month i.e. October 23, 2013 to change to Oct. 23, 2013. I am using the pro plugin.
Should I change the events-advanced-list-load widget-display.php ? or is there an easier way?
