• Hello,

I use compact albums for the photos on my website.

In the last months it worked quiet well. The only problem was a large blank space that was displayed before the galleries of each album.
    Screenshot 1:
    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/nextgen-1-vor-update.jpg

The update to 3.5.5 version completely destroyed the formatting of the albums. The preview images of the galleries are oddly big now. And in the blank space of every album there is now the name of a completely random gallery that has nothing to do with it!
    Please see screenshot 2:
    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/nextgen-2-nach-update.jpg
The text “London After Midnight” that displays here is the name of a completely different gallery in a completely different album. It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the album it is displayed now. Its the same for every single album on the website now. Gallery names with no connection display randomly.

The downgrade to 3.4.1 broght me to this: Screenshot 3
    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/nextgen-3-nach-downgrade.jpg
The nonsense gallery names are gone, but the preview image stays big.

I installed a complete backup of my website now, so that I am back to what I had before the update.

Which update will adress these errors?
When will it be safe to update from 3.4.1. without having “side effects” like this?

    Greetings

Hi @sfrueh, I am glad to help.

You can try by changing the gallery settings from NextGEN Gallery > Gallery Settings

Alternatively, if you have a site backup from before 3.5, you can restore to it to get your settings back.

This issue has been looked at and sorted out from what we see internally here (at least preliminarily). If all goes well we plan a release for early January.

We are deeply sorry about the issues and we are working to fix it.

    Hi @sfrueh,

I am happy to inform you that our developers has fixed a list of reported issues in NextGen Gallery 3.57.

Could you please update to the latest version, then let me know if that’ll resolve the problems encountered with the past NGG 3.5x versions?

    Hello @jaimeimagely and @mihaiimagely,

the Update to 3.57 did solve the formatting of the albums. They are no longer oddly big.

But it DID NOT solve the displaying of random gallery names above my albums. This is the situation of 3.57 for me, please look at the screenshot:
    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/357.jpg

The text “The Exploding Boy” should not be there. Its the name of a completely different gallery from a completely different album that has nothing to do with this article. So this problem from 3.5.5 is still in the 3.57 version. Every compact album has a “headline” that is a completely random gallery name.

So I’m back to 3.4.1 again.

    Hi @sfrueh,

Thanks for your reply here and sorry to hear of the remaining problem.

So just to confirm that “The Exploding Boy” isn’t the name of the parent album here?

In the latest update, we’ve fixed the breadcrumbs’ usage for albums, and they may appear at the top so if you eventually navigate to a gallery then click to the parent album, you should see the parent album’s title above the galleries.

The above doesn’t mean that it should display any unrelated title though, so this sounds like a problem, but one that we were unable to replicate in our end.

Could you please try updating to 3.57 then disable the breadcrumbs from “NextGen Gallery>>Gallery Settings>>Basic Compact Album>>Enable Breadcrumbs: No” then let me know if that’ll hide the unwanted titles?

    Thanks

    Hello @mihaiimagely,

yes, I confirm “The Exploding Boy” is not the name of the parent album. “The Exploding Boy” has never been the name of an album. “The Exploding Boy” is the name of a gallery from an album that was published 2014 (!!). Absolutely no connection to the album we are talking about.

However, updating to 3.57 and disabeling the breadcrumbs seems so solve the problem. The unwanted names are gone.

BUT I just discovered another severe problem with 3.57, that I did not see before because I focused on this one.

All my albums are broken! All of them!

In the preview of compact albums every single gallery on my homepage openes itself inside the last album I uploaded. There are 482 albums on my homepage and every single gallery redirects the user to this album 482 because it is the last one I added.

This is how it correctly worked before 3.57. Lets open the gallery “Impressionen” of the album “Mera Luna Festival – Teil 2” by clicking on the “Impressionen”-folder:

    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/1-korrekter-Link.jpg

Hurray! The gallery opened itself within the correct album:

    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/2-korrekte-ansicht.jpg

Now lets try it with 3.57. By placing the mouse over the “Impressionen”-folder we already see that the file link is totally distorted and redirects us to album number 482 (the last one I created).

    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/3-falscher-dateipfad.jpg

The result: The gallery does NOT open itself within the correct album, it redirects us to the article with album number 482 (the last one).

    https://dark-festivals.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/4-falsche-ansicht.jpg

Every single of my 2.759 galleries forwards us to one and the same album: The youngest one on the page.

So, for the third time I downgraded to 3.4.1 and my website works fine again.

What do I do now? It would be a security risk to stay on the old version forever. I have been running this website for 19 years. Imagine if I never updated anything.

    Hi @sfrueh,

I am sorry to hear of the problem. This looks to be a bug that our dev team looks forward to having fixed.

I’ll be happy to inform you here when an update fixing the issue will be available.

    Hello @mihaiimagely,

after 10 weeks I dared to update again. Version 3.59.2 did not solve the problem with galleries opening in the wrong file path. This problem is present since 3.57 (see my last post with the screenshots).

    When will this be solved?

Im downgrading on 3.4.1 once again, it was the last version of NextGEN that worked properly.

    Greetings
