    1. Sounds like Google set increased Security checks on your account.
    2. Because you use Google Apps, you are forbidden from decreasing security as many other gmail users do [screenshot]
    3. I wrote a plugin exactly for people like you and me – it’s called Postman – which works side-by-side with Contact Form 7 – and in OAuth2 mode should solve your problem

    FYI

If you were able to see the error message sent from the server, it would probably look like this:

ERROR: Password command failed: 535-5.7.8 Username and Password not accepted. Learn more at https://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?answer=14257 d19sm8223368ioj.37 – gsmtp

So what do i need to do with this?

Sorry, I am more of a front-end guy, not very well versed in back end stuff.

Install Postman. Run the Setup Wizard. Try your contact form again.

ok i will give it a try now.

will this disrupt contact forms that are parts of other plugins?

I use an idx plugin that has contact forms within the plugin. I dont want these to be disrupted. just need the fix for contact form 7. does that make sense?

I wouldn’t use the word “disrupt”… but yes, this configures your email system-wide. This is normally a good thing. Your idx plugin contact form may be experiencing the same problem.

Just test it when you’re done to make sure everything’s good. If you don’t like it, you can always delete it.

I am doing this for a client that is using google apps for work. Do i have to use the developer console under his account?

the idx forms are working fine at present time, it is just the contact form 7 plugin that is not working properly

Do i have to use the developer console under his account?

    Absolutely.

    • Give your client the Redirect URL and the instructions and ask them to send back to you the Client ID and Client Secret. They will also have to login to WordPress to perform the Grant Request from Postman – OR
    • Ask your client for their Google password, you use the developer console, then ask them to change their Google password when you are done

the idx forms are working fine at present time, it is just the contact form 7 plugin that is not working properly

That must mean IDX has in its own way of sending mail, and will probably not be impacted by Postman.

If i use the postman plugin and it changes how the idx forms work will I be able to remove the changes made by the plugin?

Of course. Plugins -> Postman -> Deactivate -> Delete

Make sure that the IDX plugin is not also using their Gmail password, because in that case changing their password in Google would disrupt the IDX plugin

no the idx plugin does not use the gmail password.
