    Yes. CF7 functionality does not change. CFDB just adds to it.

    just looked at one of the forms my client will want on her website, which has quite a few fields in it (job applications/time sheets etc.) and wonder if Contact Form7 is right for this. Do you have any advise you can share with me please?

    There are a number of plugins for creating forms. I can’t say which is best. You might want to experiment with a few to see how you like them.
