• In the Participant Database Resend Link Settings, if Lost Private Link Text is filled out (as Forgot Password? in my case), the Text/Link show up on the SignUp Form as well as the Login Form, which are on the same page. How do I get it to only show up in the Login Form, but not the SignUp Form?

Check the participants Database settings under the Resend Link tab, you can disable it appearing in the signup form by unchecking the “Enable Lost Private Link” setting.

Hmmm, the “Enable Lost Private Link” setting is unchecked.

In the Resend Link settings, it doesn’t matter if I check “Enable Lost Private Link” or not, as long as the Lost Private Link Text is there, it shows up in the signup form.

I see that you don’t say enable private link for someone logging in. You intend it for someone signing up, which doesn’t make sense to me, unless signup and login is the same thing.

I have sign up and log in on the same page. Should I put them on 2 separate pages? Right now, “Forgot password?” appears in both the signup and login forms. That also means that once I click any one “Forgot password?” I end up with two Link Request Forms. And once I enter my email, I get two sets of Lost Private Link Success Messages! What to do?

I see this problem, thanks for pointing it out.

If you have both the Signup and Login shortcodes on the same page, you must use a separate page for the request private link form. That page must have the [pdb_request_link] shortcode on it.

This is configured in the Participants Database settings under the “Resend Link” tab.

As to the issue of the resend link showing up on the signup form when enabled in the login form, I have to take a look at that, it shouldn’t do that. Each form has it’s own preference for that, and they should be independent. Until I issue a fix for that, you can use CSS to hide it in the signup form if you want.

    HI Roland,

I was looking forward for your fix for the Resend link in your update. But it wasn’t fixed.

I have the login and signup on the same page, and I’m still getting the Forgot password on both forms, even though the resend link on signup form was not checked, and I’m getting 2 request link forms on the Thank You page I directed it to go to.

At one point, I also had a Login form on the Thank You page. Even though only one “Forgot password?” showed up on that page, I got three request link forms! That means it doesn’t matter that the login and signup forms are on different pages. I have since deleted that login form. Can you look into this again?

    Thanks,
    Ivy

Thanks for bringing this up, looks like I forgot to write the issue up. I’m referring to the ability to control whether the lost private link link is shown in the signup or login forms independently.

As to the issue of multiple “retrieve link” forms appearing, the only fix for that is to put the retrieve link form on it’s own page. You can configure this in the Participants Database settings under the Resend Link tab, it’s the “Lost Private Link Page” setting.

OK, update on your original issue: What I’m seeing in my tests is that I can independently control whether the lost private link link appears in the Signup and Login forms when both forms are on the same page.

Can you confirm that this is working for you?

I just put Lost link form on its own page, and it does get rid of it showing multiple forms.

But no, the lost private link appears on both forms or not at all based on whether the lost private link text is there or not. Checking the Enable Lost Private Link or not doesn’t have any effect.

The settings to look for are “Enable Lost Private Link” in the Participants settings under the Resend Link tab, and “Show Lost Password Link” in the Participant Login settings.

Using the “Lost Private Link Text” to control whether the link is visible or not is not recommended. Set that to the clickable text you want and just use those two checkbox settings I mentioned above to control where it is visible.

Take a close look at the documentation here: Setting the Fields a Shortcode Shows it explains how which fields are shown is determined for different shortcodes, and how to control field visibility.

Yes, the “Show Lost Password Link” in the Participant Login settings is checked.
The “Enable Lost Private Link” in the Participants settings under the Resend Link tab is NOT checked. Note that this Enable Lost Private Link refers to SignUp, which doesn’t make sense to me. How can you lose your password when you’re just signing up? Isn’t that before you even submitted your password? Anyway, that’s why I am tying to get rid of it.

The Lost Private Link Text controlling the all or none on both forms is not something I use to control visibility. It’s just an observation.

Today I notice that my changes to the settings under Resend Link have to be saved a couple of times before it takes. I don’t know why.

The lost private link is placed on the signup form because there really isn’t any other place to put it (if there is no login form), also when people are on the site looking for it, the signup form is a natural place to look, since there is normally no “login” form.

As to why the link is still appearing on your signup form, I don’t know why that is.

When you originally reported the problem I thought I had fixed it (I don’t see the problem in my tests here) but something different is happening in your case. I just wanted to make sure you had it configured correctly first.

Ah, I see. Are you saying that if I put the forms on two separate pages, I probably wouldn’t have this problem?

    Thread Starter crowwoods1

    (@crowwoods1)

ok, I did it. I put them on two separate pages. Now it’s no longer showing on the signup form.
