Foreign keys / orphaned DB entries

I seem to end up with a lot of orphaned entries, especially in my terms tables. What this ends up meaning is that I can’t get the slugs I want, as they are already in use by keys that are no longer being utilised.

Instead, WordPress gives me alternatives that hust don’t work like “info-03” or something else.

If wordpress by itself can’t seem to do a decent job in working out and deleting unused relationships, isn’t it about time to support foreign keys and cascading deletes?

And in the meantime, does anyone know of a way to delete these erroneous entries?
