Forcing user to select location before entering shop

  • I need to have the user’s location to display correct tax and shipping rates as she enters the shop. What came to mind is using a splash page and cookies to get and save this information. Of course, the splash page is only displayed if the corresponding cookie isn’t set.

    Are there any better ideas for achieving this? Or, better still, examples of how this has been done, one way or another?

    The reason I don’t want to let the user in before getting the location info are the high tax rates here – either the people in EU get false hopes or the non-EU-customers turn on their heels when they see the prices with the EU VAT included…
