One of my clients has three websites running Independent Analytics. Today, he received two e-mails notifying him that two of the websites were down due to the latest update to Independent Analytics (version 1.18). However, automatic updates were disabled precisely to avoid issues such as this. The website that wasn’t down hadn’t yet updated to 1.18, so he disabled the plugin before the same thing happened.

Any idea why Indepenent Analytics has been updated if automatic updates were disabled?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Montse

    Hi Montse,

I’m so sorry to hear about this error. The update system is run by WordPress so Independent Analytics shouldn’t work any differently than other plugins on the site in terms of auto-updates.

Would you be able to reach out to me at [email protected] to discuss this error further? I’d like to see the error message and we may need to discuss sensitive account info that can’t be posted here.

Nevermind. Please update to version 1.18.1 and this error will be fixed.

We named this version “1.18.0” in the plugin, but on wp.org it was “1.18” and unfortunately, WP didn’t like this and it caused 500 errors for some sites. This is resolved in the new version.

    Hi Ben!

Thanks a lot for looking into this and posting a fix so quickly. I’ll update the plugin later.

I know you said in your first message that in terms of auto-updates Independent Analytics should work no different than other plugins, but do you have any intuition on why this happened?

    Thanks again!

Could you let me know if you’re using the PRO version? There could be something happening differently than with the free version.

No, all websites have the free version of the plugin.

BTW, they were all updated to version 1.18.1 with no issues.

Great, thanks for letting me know.

This was a rather bizarre situation with the www.remarpro.com update system, and it won’t ever happen again. The auto-update settings you have on the site will be respected moving forward, and you don’t have to make any changes on your rend.
