• After mirgrating my local site to my remote host, when logging into to mydomain/wp-admin, I was greeted with the message along the lines of “A updated version of wordpress is here, before we send you on your way, we’ll update your database.” There was no way to opt out of this, so I clicked.

Then, when my database had been successfully updated, I was prompted to login to my admin panel. My password no longer worked. Positive I was using the right password, but had a new one resent.

After logging in with my new password, I noticed that my admin panel had my site title as one I had created many months ago and since forgotten about. My page was displaying as completely blank (white), and the admin panel said “The active theme is broken. Reverting to the default theme.”

To make matters worse, after logging out of the admin panel and trying to log back in to see if that had any affect, my new password was coming up as incorrect. Again, 100% positive that I was entering the new password correctly. Did so several times with no luck.

    a) The whole point of migrating my site and not just downloading a new version of WP onto my remote host and uploading ftp files was that I wanted to carry over changes I had made through admin panel during local testing. Where did all that stuff go? I backed up all site files and my local database and have tried re-uploading all of these, but no luck.

    b) Not sure why it is saying the theme is broken. I’m using blankslate, and when i try ‘live preview’ through the admin panel, I can see the modifications I made in term of layout, so it’s reading the files, but all the content I configured (via admin) categories, site title, navigation, has been reset to the title I gave to my very first wp site many months ago (e.g. my sandbox). What gives? How can I restore the changes I made through the admin panel? Been working really hard on this site and had it all ready to go…is the database update to blame? Will my backups save the day?

    Thanks in advance!

And, as of this morning, when I log into my admin panel and click ‘live preview’ on my the theme I’m being told is broken I get a screen with nothing but this message:

    “Cheatin’ uh?”

Have I been hacked? Site hasn’t even been live for a day!

Please help! I’m building this site for a friend and having trouble explaining what’s going on.
