I know this issue comes up a lot on the forum and I feel like I have exhausted all of the things that work for others and still no luck. I am pretty knowledgable when it come to the web and development work so I can’t believe I can’t get it to work. I am trying to force www on the url for my site. I have the site installed but have not installed any plugins yet. I simply installed the site, went to settings > General and added https://www.myurl.com to both the WordPress address and Site Address fields and hit Save Changes. I then verified through phpMyAdmin that the siteurl and home tables were updated correctly and they are. BUT now when I visit my site I get and error that “This webpage has a redirect loop”.

From what I gathered from other forum posts is that it’s not a good idea to force www with .htaccess as wordpress handles this already so I have not done anything with .htaccess.

When I try to visit https://www.myurl.com/wp-admin it redirects to https://myurl.com/wp-admin and presents me with the login form. When I login it just refreshes the page and nothing happens.

I hope I have given enough detail and hope someone can help. I am probably just missing some stupidly simple step somewhere. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Of course right after I post I find the issue!! Grr. For any one else out there that is running into the same issue it was a setting in my Control Panel. The host I use uses Parallels Plesk as the control panel and there is a setting on the backend for Preferred Domain. This was causing the issue as one was trying to force www and one was trying to remove it. I hope this helps someone else.

Thanks for posting your solution and marking as resolved. That should be helpful to others searching on the same issue.
