Did you try to change it on Settings > General (WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL)) from https://example.com to https://www.example.com?

Not possible in multisite

Sorry, now I see it’s a multisite. Did you try to redirect using .htaccess?

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]

or a plugin like WordPress MU Domain Mapping.

I occasionally change hostnames. I have to update the database data and wp-config.php That should be it. Maybe you forgot to modify wp-config.php
