• Hello.

I’ve used WordPress’s Export Tool to backup pages and posts, in separate files, and imported them into a new blog. I have about 1,000 images in the old site. How can I migrate all of the attachments that my orignal posts had?

So far, what I’ve done is move the images into the uploads folder, but WordPress doesn’t see them. Is there some way I could use the old database and migrate the attachment information to the new website? Or is there a rescan function or something?

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

  • You can use the export tool to also include all attachments. I suggest you make a new export file and this time, check “All content”. Then, before you import the content, delete all files & folders in wp-content/uploads and let WordPress handle them itself.

Hm. Now I have two of every category in my navigation menu. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Yes – delete all content and then re-run the import.
