    Hi,
I import products into a Woocommerce website from a csv file, and each product is associated with just one category. I need this category to be set as the primary category, the only way I can achieve this currently is to uncheck the check the category on each individual product page. Is there a way to automatically set a category as the primary category if it is the only category enabled?

If you have only one category selected for all of your products, you won’t need to set the category as the primary one. The primary category feature is only useful when a product belongs to multiple categories and you want to select one of them as a primary one.

Hi, I’m using a plugin that makes use of the primary category feature and needs it to be set even if only one category is selected. I understand that this is not really an issue with Yoast but I’ll probably need to have a script developed that will set this for me.

    Hello,

I do not understand the reason to select a primary category, can you tell me ?

I want to display my products under 2 categories, do I still need to choose a primary category ?

    Thank you for your help.

@jdtravel Right, you’ll probably need a custom script that will do that job for you.

@advisorexpertwordpress Depending on your needs, you can either set a primary category or ignore it when using multiple categories for a product.

    Thanks Mazedul

Hi. I have the same issue and could not really see a solution in the thread, so sorry if I am asking same things twice: I am importing products via the woocommerce import suite. I can set more categories there (separated by pipe). But I cannot see, where it is possible to set the primary category. Is this even supported when importing products?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi pmoederer, I use a similar plugin (WP All Import) to import products and I’ve just placed a support ticket with them to see weather they will support the primary category setting. From what I understand, the primary category setting is a Yoast SEO setting not a native WordPress setting, therefore it’s not currently supported by third party addons such as ‘Woocommerce import suite’ and ‘WP All Import’. Our only option at the moment is to get a developer to write a script which will carry out this task.
