I’d like to control where the line breaks when a page or post title exceeds one line.

It’s simple enough to insert a <br/> in the title, but the actual characters “<br/>” show up in the breadcrumb trail.

I tried the Page Title Splitter plug-in from www.remarpro.com, but something similar happens: a whole string of code shows up as text in the breadcrumb trail.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have!

    Hi Todd,

I just tested this and the line break is taking effect when I use it in the title. For this reason, I think it may not be working due to a plugin on the site. Could you temporarily deactivate the plugins on your site and check if this makes a difference?

I don’t think WordPress itself has ever modified this, but it’s also worth updating to the latest version if you’re not running it already.

Hi, Ben. Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I can insert a line break that works, but the characters “<br/>,” while invisible in the page or post title, appear in the breadcrumb trail, so that the breadcrumb trail looks like this:

Home > Come Thou Fount<br/> of Every Blessing

I’m running WordPress 4.8, and I tried deactivating plug-ins, as you suggested.

I don’t necessarily have to have the breadcrumb trail, but I actually like the way it looks. And it gives folks another means of navigation.

Okay I see, sorry I missed that part. I’ll update the breacrumb trail and release an update this week.
