    Hello,

This is a suggestion, not something I need support with.

I think that the Force From email option should not be active by default, as it can cause confusion.

We had double checked every form on the website to make sure that all emails are set correctly, but didn’t think to check WP Mail SMPT as well, knowing we didn’t set a From email there.

As a result, we have had emails going out for clients where the admin address (which is one of the devs) was used as From email.

This is a bit of a problem, and although we have learned our lesson and will always check WP Mail SMPT settings as well, I’m guessing some people might run into this as well.

    Hope this suggestion helps,
    Bogdan

    Hi Bogdan,

    we appreciate the feedback!

The reason for “Force From Email” being active by default is, that most of the mailers can only send emails with a single “From Email” address, that is authenticated by that mailer. For most users, this is the best default and resolves a lot of frustration for these users.

It looks like you are in the other group of users, who can use different From Email addresses, and the emails are still sent successfully ??

I hope you understand that we have to set the default values so that they can benefit the majority of our users.

    Have a nice day!

    Thanks for your answer, Gregor!

Would you recommend using Force from email as a precaution? We generally use our own SMTP as a mailer.

    Hi Bogdan,

if your SMTP server is accepting the configured From Emails from your WP site (From Email addresses in all plugins), then having the “Force From Email” option disabled is OK.

The problem arises, when the SMTP server rejects an email, because the From Email address used in that email is not a “from email address”, that the SMTP server accepts. That’s when it’s good to have the “Force From Email” setting enabled, since it will force all the emails sent to the SMTP server to have the From Email address configured in our plugin(“From Email” setting).

    Have a nice day!

    Hey Bogdan,

Thank you for raising this up. I was also wondering why my transactional emails wasn’t sent from the address I’ve set in Woocommerce settings until I saw your comment that the “Force from email” is turned on by default which is why it’s using the email I’ve set for SMTP – for contact form and other admin mails. My SMTP server is able to send mails with a different from address and this solved my problem:)
