• Hello Sir,
I have access to some small plugins that can do some small things on BuddyPress:

This one can change Username — https://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-username-changer/

This one creates Member Types and additional BuddyPress Member Directorieshttps://wbcomdesigns.com/downloads/buddypress-member-type/

Another one I have, enables Extended Profile Fields to be shown on the frontend of the Member Cards, as you can see here– https://prnt.sc/3RTN41rg8vYz

    MY PROBLEM
I have been searching for 3 weeks, and still haven’t found a solution.

Now, this is a Member Card from Ultimate Member plugin— https://prnt.sc/RcapjsN_Lm6N

You can see that it shows First and Last Name.

And this is the one from BuddyPress– https://prnt.sc/e8mxKgzg8avT

You can see that it shows only Username.

The only way to show First and Last Name on the Member card of BuddyPress, is to manually go to the backend, and change it manually for each user.

That will be a hell time consuming to do, if I have 1,000 users.

    EXPECTED SOLUTION
I need a solution that will enable me to force First and Last Name on the Members cards, as you have seen here– https://prnt.sc/RcapjsN_Lm6N

Can you Please extend this plugin to be able to do that?

    Regards.

  • Hello @gamicord,

I have tested this on my BuddyPress site it worked. You must go to your Settings > Force First Name to apply to all existing users.

As all sites are different you will have to test this to see how it works on your install.

If the users has a added their “Name” through BuddyPress profile edit, it will be parses it to the First Name Last Name Fields in WordPress. Then this plugin should force them to be the default you display.

I tried to follow what you said, but it is not clear enough.

When you said “Go to Settings“, there’s nothing in Settings.

Probably you would have to give a more clear step by step guide with screenshots to show which places and which areas exactly you are talking about.

    Hello,

Navigate to WordPress Settings > Force First Last to run a script that will update all existing users.

At a point, I don’t even know what to tell you again.

I am saying that, If I don’t go to WordPress backend and manually update a user, this plugin doesn’t automatically update the BuddyPress Usernames to begin to use First and Last Names.

Whereas, I need this plugin to be able to update from Username to First and Last name automatically in BuddyPress.

If you want to disagree with me and argue with me on what I am experiencing and saying to you, then I wouldn’t really know what else to say to you– because it will just appear to me like you are just trying to shut me up.

The real truth is that, the plugin is not working as expected: it is not automatically updating BuddyPress Usernames to start using First and Last Names.

The only way that my BuddyPress Users get to see their First and Last names, is if I manually go to each specific user on the backend, and choose the “Display name publicly as“.

But this is a heck of a job, if I have to do that manual changing for every single user.

This is my predicament, and I am asking that, what can I do to make this plugin function for me as I expect?

    Regards.

    Hello Gamicord,

I’m sorry, I misunderstood what you were asking when you said nothing was in Settings.

Can you make sure your “Extended Profiles” Profile Syncing is enabled?
    Settings > BuddyPress > Options

if your settings are correct it’s possible another plug-in is interfering. Would you mind sharing a list of your plug-ins? You can do this by pasting your site health and do this ticket.
