Footnotes not working in Advanced Custom Fields WYSIWYG

The plugin is working as expected within the native WP WYSIWYG editor, but it doesn’t work in WYSIWYG editors generated by ACF. I’m using double parentheses to begin and end footnotes. When using ACF WYSIWYG editors, the content is shown on the front end within double parentheses, rather than being turned into footnotes. Any way to make this work?
