Footnotes can’t be edited if Custom fields visible
-
I think there might be an issue with the WP 6.3 Footnote Block storing its values in a visible Custom Field with the name “footnotes”:
- If i use the Footnotes Block in default View (with Custom Fields hidden) everything works as expected.
- As I switch Custom Fields to visible (via Preferences > Panels > Additional > Custom Fields ) and try to edit existing Footnotes in the Content Editing Area, my changes will not get saved.
- If I change my Footnotes inside the JSON Code in the Custom Field, they will get saved and – after reload of the page – will show up in the Content Editing Area.
It seems like the value of the visible Custom Field overrides what is visible inside the Content Editing Area. My unsophisticated guess is: thats why other values are stored in invisible underscore-named fields?
As a user I would expect the changes made in the Content Editing Area always to get saved. And I would expect the built-in Custom Fieds not to interfere with the usual WordPress Interface.
Tested in a fresh WordPress 6.3.2 / PHP 8.1.9 / Theme: Twenty Twenty-Three / no Plugins.
