Hi MCM, the theme does not support any footer widgets, but you can easily register a new widget area and add it to footer.php via a Child Theme if you like. Hope that helps!

I’ll consider that as a feature request for future updates to the theme, but won’t promise anything ??

yes please! I’d love a theme update for a footer widget area, my previous theme Chateau had one and I thought all themes had footer widgets, it made it easy to put social links, pages, and other info at the bottom and gave it a smart finish. PLEASE do!

Also I don’t like the put extra code in functions.php files as every time I do I get locked out of my dashboard with a parse error code and syntax line on a white page and I have to go into my hosting files manager and replace public folder backdated to recover. So I cannot mess with functions file at all. So it’s no use wordpress saying I have to do things in there. It has to be either built by the designer or somehow a brave user has to find another way.

+1 for feature request of adding footer widgets to this great theme!

yes and this audio link doesn’t recommend coding in the functions file at all, but putting the code in the plugins instead….has Konstantin tried that and does it work?

Vanessa, if you’re looking to make changes to the theme, you should use a child theme and a functions.php file within your child theme, which is essentially the same thing as a plugin.

    Taking myself off list

I’ve done the child theme, but I haven’t yet set up FTP so I can’t add new files other than add css to the child theme. I’m a bit nervous of tinkering any more….but I did FTP with Dreamweaver a while back ok.

I did a child theme to add header and footer widgets. I made it available on Github: https://github.com/martin-denizet/expound-extras

    martin-denizet,

That was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much.
