    Hi,

I have been experiencing the problems noted by others where many of the gallery thumbnails are greyed out when acessing pages on a smart device but the galleries work fine on a desktop. I cannot access the settings page though, because I am unable to access ANY of the Foo Gallery menu items in the WP Admin portal. When clicking any FooGallery Links (including gallery; settings etc.) I get a 504 error.

I have FooBox installed and those menus work fine.
Versions: FooBox: 2.7.5 FooGallery: 1.8.12 WP Version: 5.2.4 PHP version 7.2

I reinstalled an old backup version of FooGallery (FTP into Plug-in Folder) but the same problem occurred. I then updated to the latest version again – no change.

    Any guidance appreciated.

    Hi,

I have not heard of this issue before with the 504 errors.
Do your server logs have any hints of errors?
Do you block access to external sites from your server? It could be timing out when trying to contact the freemius server.

Hi bradvin, thanks for your reply. As I am not all that familiar with add-ins and server logs, could you advise where I can find the server logs within the file structure?

Also it there some connection test that can be conducted to establish whether the Freemius server is blocked? I am not aware of any specific blocks in place.

The menu access problem occurred after the beginning of September, FooGallery worked fine before then (except for the thumbnail problems on smartphones). The host server (Fasthosts) was upgraded to PHP 7.2 fairly recently, would this have any effect?

    Hi @guilttrip

PHP 7.2 should not be a problem – my local server is running 7.3 with no issues.

Contact your host and ask them how to access your site’s error logs. You should be able to see them from your control panel. I am hoping there are hints inside the error logs that can explain why you are getting the 504. You can also ask your host if they block outbound traffic.

    Hi @bradvin,

I have an update from the host (Fasthosts) which may or may not be helpful…

“I have already checked this here for you and I can confirm that the issue is not server side.

The error 504 happened because of the application and the scripts runtime on the server. It does not complete within 60 seconds, which is the max time for a script.
Plugins often fail to install due to the 60 second limit so they can be installed manually.
504 simply means the script didn’t complete in 60 seconds in this instance.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi

Nothing jumped out at me looking at those logs. You can see timeouts occurring from a number of URL’s – I would suggest that you send that to your host and ask them why you are getting these timeouts

    Thread Starter guilttrip

    (@guilttrip)

    Hi @bradvin,

As recommended, I contacted my host (Fasthosts) and received the reply copied further below…

Since then I have deactivated ALL plugins including FooBox and still I get the timeout error. I then activated just FooGallery and FooBox and still no joy.

For reference, I am using the Fotografie Theme, Version: 2.0.2 By Catch Themes.

    Reply from Fasthosts:

I do apologise for the inconvenience this issue has caused you.

As per checking here, there were no issues on the server where the website is hosted. I would really suggests for you to check the plugins and themes you are using as one of this could cause the 504 error. I would suggests for you to disable all the plugins and re-enable them one by one and check the site everytime. If the site returns the 504 error, that plugin that you have just enabled is the cause of it.

Should you have any other concerns and clarifications, please reply to this email.

    Best regards,

    Climen
    Fasthosts Customer Support

    Hi @guilttrip,

Sorry to hear you’re still having issues.

If you’ve disabled all plugins and you’re still experiencing the 504 errors then it definitely suggests something not right with your hosting despite what they are saying.

The thing that stands out in the logs to me is “RSA certificate configured for thirty5.co.uk:443 does NOT include an ID which matches the server name” which indicates there is a problem with the configuration of the SSL certificate for thirty5.co.uk.

Please chase your web host up about that and see how you get on. Sorry we can’t help further with this but clearly if it’s still happening with all plugins deactivated then it’s not directly related to FooGallery / FooBox. ??

    Thread Starter guilttrip

    (@guilttrip)

    Hi @phillcoxon @bradvin,

Whilst I await a further Host provider response to the SSL query, I discovered the following which may help to give a clue as to what is happening:

In the Admin console, when I hover the mouse on the FooGallery Settings menu, the link displayed in the status bar (at the bottom of the screen) is:
    https://www.thirty5.co.uk/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=foogallery&page=foogallery-settings

This is the link that times out with the 504 error (as do ALL FooGallery sub menu options).

I discovered however (from other peoples posts) that I CAN browse the setting page by entering:
    https://www.thirty5.co.uk/wp-admin/admin.php?page=foogallery-settings

Does this mean that the links are incorrect in the menu structure?
Whether or not this is the case, can you provide the links that I could use to access my Galleries and to add a new Gallery as a temporary work around?

    Regards

    Thread Starter guilttrip

    (@guilttrip)

    Hi @phillcoxon @bradvin

I do not consider this topic resolved as I am unable to access my existing Galleries or to add any new ones.

    Regards

    Hi @guilttrip,

    Sorry for the slow delay.

Would you please try saving your permalinks and see if that makes a difference? This will cause the .htaccess file to be rewritten which could fix potential errors there.

Apart from that it’s very hard to say what’s going on. Based on the fact that it’s extremely rare for us to have 504 errors reported to us it’s unlikely to be FooGallery causing the problem. More often than not it is another active plugin that is causing an issue and as a result FooGallery isn’t able to work properly.

My suggestion would be to do a full back up and then deactivate all plugins apart from FooGallery temporarily. Then test FooGallery to see if the redirects are working. If so you will know it’s another plugin and can start activating them one at a time to isolate the one that is causing the conflict with FooGallery.

If you have any redirect plugins that would be a good place to start testing.

I’m still concerned about the “RSA certificate configured for thirty5.co.uk:443 does NOT include an ID which matches the server name” error messages in your logs. If the SSL certificate does not match your server name then that may be blocking access to urls / resources so once again I’d suggest chasing that up with your web host.

Let me know how you get on.

    Thread Starter guilttrip

    (@guilttrip)

    Hi @phillcoxon ,

I have deactivated all other plugins and retested just with FooGallery but this has made no difference at all.

I can still access the settings page using the link accidentally discovered previously (see my above messages). The galleries can be viewed but there is still no way of accessing the galleries or other sub menu items in the admin menus to make any changes / additions.

I discovered however if I try to access the galleries by entering:

    https://www.thirty5.co.uk/wp-admin/admin.php?page=foogallery-galleries

(A guessed link) I get a “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page” error message .

    Regards

    Hi @guilttrip,

Sorry for the slow response – we missed seeing your reply until now.

Are you still having this issue? If so I really don’t know what other advice to offer you at this stage.

Given we’ve had almost no reported issues of 504 errors from other customers it strongly suggests that either another plugin/theme is conflicting with FooGallery or there may be something funky going on with your hosting server setup that is causing some sort of timeout issue.

Here are some articles that discuss the “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page” error and offer steps to resolve it:

    https://www.hostinger.com/tutorials/fix-sorry-you-are-not-allowed-to-access-this-page-wordpress

    https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/sorry-you-are-not-allowed-to-access-this-page-error-in-wordpress/

Please do make a full backup of your site before making any significant changes.

You can also ask your hosting company to see if they can offer any additional suggestions.

Good luck with solving the issue.
