• Hi,

I am trying to style a new newsletter, but for the font sizes, there are only dropdowns, I cannot enter the font sizes that I need. In the documentation, there are input fields: https://kb.mailpoet.com/article/289-styles

How can I get those fields or otherwise enter the correct font sizes?

    Thank you!

EDIT: I continued and run into other walls. E.g. how can I make headings bold? Is there a way to override template styles in my child theme?

    Hi there @lausianne,

Thanks for reaching out to MailPoet support!

When adding something like a text block to your newsletter, that particular block can be styled by selecting the type of text (paragraph, or one of three heading sizes) via a dropdown at the top of the block only.

To adjust the font sizes, you would need to change the sizes for those four styles (basic text + 3 headings) – note that these font size changes would then affect all text of that style in your newsletter.

These font settings (which are the ones shown in the link you shared) are over in the right hand column, under Styles. It looks like this when you click the “Styles” title to open up that section:

    https://d.pr/i/DRUXYt
    Full Size: https://d.pr/i/DRUXYt

Please refer to this document for additional information on the allowed fonts here, and recommended sizes to use:
    https://kb.mailpoet.com/article/289-styles

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Lynn,

Thanks for your reply. Your link goes to the page that I linked to myself. But the actual style section looks different now. No more input fields, but – sadly – dropdowns.

This is just the problem: The sizes in the given dropdowns are insufficient. I need other sizes. How?

And how can I make headings bold?

    Thank you!

    Hi again @lausianne,

Ah, I see! I apologize for the original confusion about what you needed to know.

Yes! It is true that in the styling area now you can select from a fixed selection of font sizes and fonts only.

Our goal here at MailPoet is to help you not only achieve high levels of deliverability to your subscriber list, but to ensure your subscribers remain engaged and active by making sure your emails are readable on as many different platforms and readers as possible.

For this reason, we limit the selections here to try to ensure that your mail design falls is fairly standardized, meaning it will work well with different screen sizes and readers.

If you require very special fonts for decorative reasons, the best solution would be to use images for your header areas with the exact text design you require – although please note that a high number of images in a newsletter email can also be a hinderance to delivery and opens.

That all said, if you have a need to **bold** your headings, you can do that individually on each. Once you have added the text / heading block to your newsletter, you can select the text and use the Bold button (B) in the popup menu above the block. This would have to be done on a per-heading basis as it cannot be set at the overall style level.

    Hi Lynn,

Please explain, why for a heading 18px and 20px would work, and 19px would not work?

It is not a matter of decoration or taste. It is a matter of corporate identity. This is absolutely essential for marketing for any organization. I cannot tell a client “Sorry, your CI says 19px, it is 19px on your website, but unfortunately it is not in MailPoet’s dropdown. And also, headings could be bold, but it will be a lot of effort for each newsletter and will cost you extra”.

If I cannot use the required font styles, then I can simply not use MailPoet. I actually wonder who can use it, unless they really don’t care about marketing …

Please, Lynn, we need to find a solution here.

    Thank you!

    Hi there @lausianne,

I do understand branding is important when it comes to your marketing emails!

To that end, we do have an active project on our development team to transition the email designer to use the standard WordPress Gutenberg editor and blocks to build emails. Using these blocks will give you all the power that those blocks have for a typical post or page – so once that transition happens, full design power should be in your hands.

However, in the meantime, the current email designer does have its limits as you have found. As we are actively working to move the editor to Gutenberg blocks, our development on the existing editor for enhancements like this is limited at this time.

I do appreciate it doesn’t help much right now to say that we do understand branding flexibility and are working towards a wider solution when we do not have a fixed ETA for that release yet. But just wanted to assure you that we do have a longer term solution in mind here for this issue.

In the meantime, using a combination of the existing settings and graphical headings, I hope you will be able to make use of MailPoet while waiting for the new editor.
