Have you made any changes in the theme options?

No. In fact to make sure, i reset to defaults just now. no change.

It seems that there is a css conflict with your theme, please try to activate another WP theme and check your calendar to see if the issue still exists.

With the alternate theme activated the wording worked. But how can I use my preferred theme and still get the wording looking good?

Please add the following code to your site css, it should solve this conflict:

#ai1ec-container A .ai1ec-event-title {font-size: 12px;}
#ai1ec-calendar .ai1ec-calendar-title {font-size: 12px;}
