Followers/subscribers from wp.com

    Hi there,

    I recently migrated from wp.com to wp.org hosted by Godaddy. It will be same blog but with a new design and layout. I am still working on it so I have not officially launched the new look version but before I do that, I have a few questions:

    1.) Will my current followers and email subscribers on wp.com automatically follow the new blog once the ‘old’ one (wp.com version) has been redirected to my new blog?

    2.) Will my blog posts still appear in the ‘reader’ section of wp.com for those who currently follow my wp.com blog?

    3.) How do I transfer my email subscribers to my new blog location?

    4.) Can people and other wp.com users still ‘follow’ me (by clicking on the button that currently appears in wp.com?

    I hope this makes sense. I am nearing the end of my designing and implementation of the new look blog so want to make sure of this info before I redirect my wp.com to the new one.

    As always, your help will be greatly appreciated. ??

  • 1) Not automatically/ You may have to ask the folks over at wordpress.com to transfer this data over.

    2) No. Only posts from wordpress.com sites are listed there.

    4) Are you using the same domain name?

    Thanks esmi. I am going to use the same blog title without the WordPress.com part. Will WP.com followers/users be able to find and read my new blog?

    Not automatically no as, in effect, this is a completely new site.

    I really don’t want to lose my current followers so will ask to have them moved over. Hopefully by updating my Gravatar profile it will direct new followers to my new site.

    What I mean is that if I update my Gravatar profile on WordPress.com and read or comment on blogs, they will click on my Gravatar profile that will then link to my new site. Will that not work?

    Yes but any existing followers will still not be automatically forwarded to your new site.
