Hi, could I please ask about the folder and file structure below the gallery folder.

I’ve noticed that older folders have a cache and dynamic folder whereas since the beginning of 2020 there is only a thumbnail folder.

I cannot work out whether this is a configuration change I’ve made of something in a release of the plug-in.

Any guidance about the folders within gallery would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi @iwaddo,

That’s a good question. In the past I think we were additionally using a folder named “dynamic” for the dynamic thumbnails that were used in Mosaic, Masonry and Tile gallery display types but we have now moved to “cache” folder now for images of the same purpose.

Please note that the “cache” folder is generated and used mostly when you have NextGen Plus or Pro installed which makes me think that you have moved to NextGen Gallery ( free ) lately and respectively, it doesn’t create the “cache” folder anymore for the new galleries.

Hi, thank you, yes, we are currently only using NextGen Gallery (free) on our website wakefieldcameraclub.org.uk.

So will I be safe to delete all the ‘dynamic’ and ‘cache’ folders from the server, even for those that might have been using a Plus or Pro gallery but are no longer?

I have just realised that the dynamic and cache folders are using less than 100Mb so it is probably not worth the risk or effort of deleting them.

Can I assume that if I upgrade my plug-in and start using the additional gallery’s the ‘dynamic’ and ‘cache’ folders would be created as required by the plug-in?

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi @iwaddo,

Yes, these folders can be safely removed. The premium versions of NextGen will automatically create these folder and generate the image files should it need them.
