Hi guys! So my first SEO optimzed article is out now and it seems like the plugin shows me a few wrong Red labels for the focus keyword “keep travel costs low”

    – “The focus keyword doesn’t appear in the first paragraph of the copy. Make sure the topic is clear immediately.” – this is because I have a picture in front and can be ignored I think?
    – “The keyword density is 0.1%, which is too low; the focus keyword was found 3 times.” So i included the focus keyword 3 times, it tells me that is 0,1%. Sounds a bit off too, how many times would I have to include it to get a green here?
    – “A meta description has been specified, but it does not contain the focus keyword.” – this seems wrong as well as my meta description contains the focus keyword for sure”

And one bonus question: I had over 100 shares showing up in my WordPress post at the bottom where the share buttons are located. Now i shortened the slug and the share counter is reset. Is that normal because the URL changed?

If anyone has any tips on what else I can do now to get my focus keyword ranked higher, they would be very welcome ??

    Cheers,
    Chris

  • 1 – You can ignore. ?The focus keyword not in first paragraph warning is thrown out if there is an HTML element, code, image, or whitespace around the keyword which is affecting Yoast’s ability to scan for it.

2 – The keyword density for your post has to be between 0.5 and 2.5%. Please refer to this article: https://yoast.com/keyword-density-post-panda/

3 – Below is your meta description. Try removing “the” and see if the plugin recognizes it.
“Traveling on a budget is a great way to explore the world for a bit longer. It does come with some restrictions though. To keep the travel costs low, you have to let go of some comforts and follow a few basic rules. This article presents my best tips on how to travel on a budget and spent less money while traveling!”

4 – Yes but you can recover that using another plugin. Try searching in the WordPress plugins repo.

    Thanks! Some comments:

2- I already use the focus keyword 4 times and I think any more would certainly feel like “stuffing it in” . as your linked article describes, this is something that should not be done. If I would shorten my focus keyword from “keep travel costs low” to “travel costs”, it would find 2 more results in my text but overall, from reading my text I think adding in more “keep travel costs low” within the text would feel unnatural!

3- that worked, thanks. I will leave it out as it actually sounds like better English as well ??

So I am really just wondering about point #2 anymore.. and then I will start building up natural links from external websites with a hopefully high authority! That way I will rank in the future hopefully. Lots of work ??

    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

You should not increase the keyword density just to get a green bullet. If adding the keyword more often wouldn’t sound natural (which is possible, considering you’re using a longtail keyword), then you can safely ignore that warning.

The end goal is to provide the best user experience as possible, not to optimize for the search engines. We too have been tempted to chase the green bullet. In such cases, it’s best to ignore the warning.

Ok thanks, thats what I was thinking as well. Do you think generally my post is okay in regards to onsite-seo? I trieed to make it easy to read and it certainly looks better than my old posts hehe. Guess all i have to do now is getting external links and then see what happens!

@chrisontour84 We reviewed the page and the on-site SEO elements look good as well. We checked on the page’s metadata and it all looks to be in place and well written, as well as the URL itself. We do see you also have links to other internal links to related content on your site as well, which is good. We would also recommend checking the internal linking to the page as well so that related content on your site also points to the page.
