    Hi!

I write game reviews so they keywords become very easy to identify. It’s usually the game title + the production company, for example like “fifa18 easports”.

But unless I actually have the exact phrase “fifa18 easports” in the article I will get a red light from Yoast. Does the focus keyword actually have to be written out in the article too?

Should I edit my focus keyword to “”fifa18 by game developer easports”? That would give me a green light because its written in the article, but it seems like a very strange keyword and no one would google something like that.

Also, is it recommnded that I unlock Yoast for additional keywords?

    Hi Dannie,

The focus keyword should be the main keyword which you are aiming to rank for. We would recommend checking out our in-depth guide on focus keywords to better understand how it works.

In your example, it might be better to choose “fifa18 review” as your focus keyword, as that’s what people would expect to find on your page.

If users search for “game name + Company”, then they’re likely looking for the official page of the game on the company’s website, you are not likely to show up in the search results for those keywords.

If you want/need to optimize your keywords for multiple keywords, you can get Yoast SEO Premium, so you can use up to 5 focus keywords per post/page.
