Focus Keyword Ampersand Issue

I am using WordPress v4.4.2, WooCommerce v2.5.2 and WordPress SEO v3.07.
The issue I am having is with my focus keywords on certain product pages. On some products it is necessary to have an “&” character in the focus keyword, this is to match the product title and meta description. I then put the same focus keyword (along with other unique details) in each product image alt tag (including the “&” character. On these products only, the SEO plugin thinks I have not used the same focus keyword and so it tells me that it cannot find the focus keyword in any of my alt tags.
When I change the “&” to “and” in both the alt tags and the focus keyword, it works perfectly. It seems to be a bug or perhaps a massive limitation with this version of the plugin. I am in a bit of a bind because the brand is Matt & Nat and it would be great if the title, meta description, focus keyword and alt tags all matched. Of course, the “&” character cannot be used in the url, but that is an acceptable sacrifice.
Any ideas or similar experience?
