Foaf, rdfs, purl, schema, sioct, xsd, xmlns what the meaning of all those tag?

sometime i surf the web and looking at source page from high ranking page/ blog and i see a lots of tag and meta i dont even kow meaning.. what are all these meta and link mean? are they useful? should i add them to my theme headers?
