fluid width with static background

I am looking for a theme that combines a static background (text and images roll over background) with the ability for the center column to expand to fit the browser width (i.e. not a fixed column width). I have had quite a bit of experience tinkering with CSS, but I’d like to start with a template that has these basic features. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
