Flash deprecated in all major browsers

Flash is not displayed without user interaction in any major browsers any more.
A HTML5/CSS Solution was announced in one of the support threads here, but that has been more than 9 months now. Will there be a solution short term? Or do we have to replace this wonderful plugin and search for an alternative? I use it on quite a few of my sites, and it would be a pity to have to say good bye…
