My client got a notice from Google that some pages were not being indexed due to a ‘noindex’ tag. The indexing report was tied to her google account, but before I involve her I’m trying to figure it out on my own.

I’m a designer, not a technician, and my troubleshooting has not presented an obvious solution. I began with settings-reading and the “search engine visibility” is NOT checked. Then I searched the html code on the homepage and couldn’t find “noindex.” Any suggestions? Thank you.

Let me clarify—the DISCOURAGE search engines from indexing is not checked.

    Hi there,

    1. GP does not interfering with the visibility of search engines, so it’s not from a theme setting.
    2. I don’t see “noindex” tag on the page you linked. Is there any other page we should be looking into?
    3. It’s likely from a setting in SEO plugin based on my experience, so do check SEO plugin settings.

Okay, I went ahead and had the client click through to Google’s “indexing report” and all the affected pages were from her store. In some cases the page contained the actual PDF she was either giving away or selling. So WooCommerce clearly had the ‘noindex’ tag there by design. Given that, it’s hard to believe Google flagged her site. This is a new one on me.

    Thanks for your input!

    No problem :)

However, I don’t think Woocommerce does that by default either, maybe there are some settings that I’m not familiar with.
