It sounds like you are using IE8. If you are, while on the editor page, set compatibility view “on” as explained at the following site and see if that doesn’t fix things for you.

I’ve run into this a lot, and switching to compatibility view typically takes care of it.

Like the original poster, I am extremely frustrated at this stupid feature that doesn’t let me edit my article without scrolling back up.

I’m so friggin frustrated and I would like to know if there is a way to turn it off.

This is so frusterating and useless that I have punched and destroyed 2 monitors because of the friggen aggrevation.

If the HTML editor really pisses you off that much, you should look into third-party blog tools. Like https://www.red-sweater.com/marsedit/ or something else on your desktop.

I’ve never had a problem with the screen staying where I scroll it to, either inside the edit box or outside, but then again, I may just be used to the basic (expected) functionality of writing long posts in a small screen. I too pull out my posts and edit in Notepad++, Textwrangler or, dare I say it, Word.

Thnaks, sacredpath. I’d been wondering why it sometimes behaves and sometimes doesn’t. (It’s that switching back & forth between computers in case i want to send one out the window that confused me – one had it & one didn’t.)

Man, you guys are harsh. Thankfully, I haven’t (yet) experienced this issue with the new build, but then I have not written a long post yet.

I DID have the same issue on a PHPBB system recently, and the Admin fixed the problem there.

However, I have since reformatted my machine…so most issues I had with IE8 have disappeared with the new install of it.

It lets you use your editor of choice to edit any code in any textarea on just about any website.

I use it a lot and love it.

So how about a moderator actually stepping in and answering this question instead of skirting around it so much. How about no more links and no more wise cracks, just say whether or not there is a FIX (not a work around) or not. If there is a fix then list what needs to be done in a way that us ‘code challenged’ beginners can easily understand; or tell us that the next WordPress update will be fixed and when that is going to happen or that there is no ‘fix’ but we’re working on it (or even there is no fix and there never will be a fix so kiss off).
I’ve spent the last hour and a half searching for this solution and have come across nothing straight forward. One moderator closes the tread with no answers; another one just says “it’s a topic for another discussion” and ignores it.

The moderators aren’t developers, we’re just volunteers who give up our free time to support hundreds of users each day, so we really can’t answer your question.

What you need to do is submit a bug report and work with the developers towards a solution.

For what it’s worth, every time I encounter this issue, it is directly related to the use of Internet Explorer, and I have always solved the problem by simply placing the site in Internet Explorers “compatibility mode” and or compatibility exception list. I have never encountered the issue in Firefox, as others seem to have noted at times.

This issue is beaten to near death, and I suspect just one more of the hundreds of anonymous reasons why IE developers decided that Internet Explorer *needed* a Compatibility Mode feature in the first place.

My only point is, that for me, selecting compatibility mode makes the issue disappear. Perhaps others haven’t had such luck? – Although I would have to wonder why the results would be any different.

I consider that a browser related issue, not a WordPress or TinyMCE issue. But, that’s just my opinion.

I have the same problem!! Using Firefox or Safari. Makes me irate… brrrrr!
